What’s so special about AK?

The AK range is performance oriented. By this we mean that Burton looks at every single piece and continually tries to make it better for those looking for next-level performance. This (generally) means:

Is AK better than regular Burton?

This depends on what you’re looking for. The main Burton line has a huge range, including a range of price points. It’s one of the most comprehensive catalogues of snowboarding gear.

If you’re looking for backcountry performance, however, the AK gear will be better suited. It’s not that some of the regular Burton gear isn’t suitable for the backcountry, it’s just that AK is better for it.

What are the handiest Burton products and features?

The AK thermals
These come in a range of thicknesses from super lightweight to (almost!) arctic-ready, and do an amazing job at keeping you warm and dry. Whether you run hot, cold or “normal”, these are a great choice.

The jacket-to-pant interface
We all love the snow, but not when it sneaks in between our layers. If you’re looking for a solid jacket-to-pant interface, often with a removable powder skirt to boot, Burton’s is a solid choice. It’s easy to get into and get out of, but provides a very effective barrier.

The Room-to-Grow system for groms
This is one of the most genuinely useful features for junior riders (and your wallet too), letting them hang on to their gear for an extra year or two. The Room-to-Grow system has removable stitches, allowing you to easily extend the length of the arm sleeves and pant legs.

The goggle to facemask interface: Anon magnetic face integration (MFI)
When the wind is tearing through you and the snow feels like ice daggers, you will thank us for this recommendation. The Anon MFI uses magnets to create a connection between your goggles and your balaclava/ face mask so there’s no gap for the cold to get in. You can get them for men, women and kids so all the family can escape the rudolph red nose look.

The zipper on both sides of your bib pants
This is a real game changer. With a zipper on both sides of your bib, you can drop it down without taking off your jacket and midlayers that are over your straps. We know it’s not a sexy topic but trust us, going to the toilet without having to completely undress makes your day a whole lot better!
