What is a race ski?

Race or carving skis are designed for speed. They are both similar but with subtle differences depending on the discipline to enhance control and the ability to carve.

For advanced skiers, and particularly those who race, a key factor is the ski’s turning radius or sidecut, which looks at how wide the ski is in the middle compared to the tip and end. 

While there are specific skis for certain racing disciplines, there are also all-rounder race skis that are designed to perform well across multiple disciplines. If you’re not sure what’s best for you, our knowledgeable team are able to help.

What is the difference between GS and SL skis?

Giant Slalom (GS) skis have a longer turning radius than slalom (SL) skis. GS skis are perfect for longer turns and SL is made for your shorter more agile turns. The sizing for GS skis is typically taller/longer than what you would choose for an SL ski length

Do race skis need different bindings?
Most of our race and carving skis come with a binding included so they’re ready to go. Race/Carve skis are generally mounted on a track system plate which has adjustability for your ski boot sole length and is great for kids with growing feet.
